Fred Beckley and Pele & Lohiau operetta

"Thank you again for recognizing another Beckley family member (I posted earlier for the year 1816 on Captain George Beckley and the Hawaiian Flag). This very accomplished man, Frederick William Kahapula Beckley, Jr., is the brother of my great-grandmother and the great-grandson of Captain Beckley. Writing the first Hawaiian operetta is just one of the many things that my great-grand uncle is remembered for. He is known in Hawaiian academic circles as Professor Fred Beckley (he received his doctorate at Heidelberg University in Germany), and he served as the first Chairman of the Hawaiian Studies Department at the University of Hawaii. He was also a member of the first graduating class of The Kamehameha Schools (c/o 1891, 14 graduates total), along with noted composer Charles E. King. Beckley was particularly well versed in the ancient study of kaona or hidden meanings in the Hawaiian language. I would love to see this operetta revived and performed again one day. Mahalo!"
